Coronation Big Lunch, Sunday 7th May 2023

by Paul Browning

The weather stayed fine for the Coronation Big Lunch in the Squire Barret Field. The event attracted over 120 people of all ages, and a great time was had by all (I hope?)

Special thanks to all those villagers who helped organise the event by setting up the tents and arranging the straw bale seating. Setting up the Saturday was largely in the rain and there were a lot of soggy helpers by the time we left to watch the Coronation ceremony on TV.

Thank you to Francis for volunteering to organise various games – sack races, Tug-o-War and running races. A goodly number of villagers joined in, of all ages!

We were also treated to an impromptu Salsa lesson, which was great fun and hopefully can be repeated? Many thanks to our Cuban(?) teacher, whose name I sadly cannot recall. It would be great if you could get in touch via contactus@miltonmatters.co.uk

With such fine weather it was decided to take down the tents and clear-up on the evening of the event. Well done to all those who stayed behind to help out.

MICE & Milton Village Fete – aka The Tadpole Feast

The village fete is traditionally held in the Squire Barrett field on the last Saturday of June, which this year would have been 24th June. The fete was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 owing to Covid restrictions, and last year it was ‘replaced’ by the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Sat 4th June 2022. This year, for several reasons, it has been decided to ‘join in’ with our Parish School fete on Sat 15thJuly 2023, which will be held in the grounds of St Blaise Primary School up at Milton Heights starting at 2pm. MICE will be supporting this event and running one or two stalls – we hope to see you all there!

Rest assured, failing pandemics, tempest & petulance - Milton Tadpole Feast will be back with a bang in June 2024!
